Coaching-based Pathway to the Professional
Clear Administrative Credential

What is the Administrative Leadership Program (ALP)?

Contra Costa County Office of Education is a local program with the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and the New Teacher Center (NTC) that offers an alternative program for the Professional Clear Administrative Services Credential. The Administrative Leadership Program (ALP) provides two years of on-site individualized coaching by certified Leadership Coaches to beginning school administrators. Driven by the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders (CPSELs), candidates create an individualized plan for demonstrating performance standards that will determine the focus for coaching. At the end of two years, candidates who successfully complete all program requirements will be recommended for the Tier II Professional Clear Administrative Services Credential.

The ALP Program is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

What are the Program Requirements?

Candidates agree to receive 3-6 hours of one-on-one coaching each month (September-June), provided by a leadership coach/ experienced administrator. Coaches support the candidates' work in developing an Individualized Leadership Plan based on the California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders and SMART Goals. Additionally, candidates attend professional development seminars held at Contra Costa County Office of Education for a total of 15 hours each year. Online reflections are completed collaboratively between coach and candidate and candidates are required to complete an e-portfolio that outlines their experience and growth throughout the program.

Who Should Participate?

Any administrator with a Tier I Preliminary Administrative Services Credential who is currently employed in an administrative position is eligible to participate in the ALP program. New administrative position hires in California are required within his/her first 90 days to enroll in a Tier II Credentialing program.

Any site or district administrators interested in instructional leadership that includes a one-on-one coach may also register for the program. Coaching is available at all levels.
