Social Media in the Heart of Silicon Valley:
The Evolution of Customer Service and the
Public Agency's Role in the Digital World

Your community wants to engage with you online, and the conversation will happen with or without you. Are you listening?

This workshop features two nationally recognized public sector social media experts who will share best practices for online engagement with the community and media. Veteran Bay Area law enforcement officers, Captain Chris Hsiung with Mountain View Police and Lieutenant Zach Perron with Palo Alto Police, will present their agencies' successes, lessons learned and tips for using social media to connect with their communities, raise awareness about their departments and build support for their mission.

About the Speakers:

Lieutenant Zach PerronCaptain Chris Hsiung commands the Field Operations Division at the Mountain View Police Department. Through the department Community Action and Information Unit (CAIU), he manages strategy, community engagement, and growth through the police department social media channels. Chris blogs for the IACP Center for Social Media, has written numerous articles for various publications, and has spoken at various conferences across the country on the topic of law enforcement's use of social media to engage the community. He has a master's degree in eBusiness Management from Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, CA and also serves on the steering committee for the Bay Area Law Enforcement Social Media Group (BALESMG). Captain Chris HsiugLieutenant Zach Perron is the public information manager for the Palo Alto Police Department. He led his agency's adoption of social media platforms in 2012 and was responsible for the recent creation of the Department's mobile app. Zach serves on the steering committee for the Bay Area Law Enforcement Social Media Group (BALESMG) and is currently a visiting fellow at the International Association of Chiefs of Police in Alexandria, Virginia, working on national-level initiatives in their Center for Social Media: http://www.iacpsocialmedia.org/.
