HEALTH SCIENCE AND MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY
Administrative Medical Assistant
Step 1: This course prepares students for entry level positions in the front office of a doctor's office, medical clinic, or health maintenance organization. Instruction includes basic medical office procedures, charting, medical ethics, medical terminology, and patient safety. Students are required to wear scrubs to class.
Prerequisites: Must be 18 years of age with high school diploma or GED. Must pass basic language and computer skills test.

Clinical Medical Assistant
Step 2: This course prepares students for entry level positions as a clinical medical assistant in doctor's offices, clinics, or HMOs. Instruction includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, injections, phlebotomy, vital signs, basic lab procedures, and charting. Externships are served at local medical facilities.
Prerequisites: Must be 18 years of age with high school diploma or GED. Must pass basic language and computer skills test. Must have one year of administrative experience or complete an Administrative Medical Assistant class. Current TB test and physical required prior to starting internship.

Direct Support Professional Training (DSPT) is provided in cooperation with the state of California Department of Developmental Services, the Department of Education, and the Contra Costa County Office of Education ROP.
