County Students Competed in the 2022 CCCSEF
Posted on 04/22/2022
Contra Costa County Science FairPLEASANT HILL, Calif. – Student scientists recently competed for the opportunity to represent Contra Costa County in state, national and international science contests. More than 100 students submitted projects for judging at the Contra Costa County Science and Engineering Fair (CCCSEF) in March. Of those, 18 were selected to compete in the California Science Fair and three projects will represent CCCSEF at the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair in May. Two projects in the Junior Division Grant Sweepstakes became eligible to compete at the Broadcom MASTERS Middle School National Science Fair in the fall.

“We are proud to partner with CCCSEF, which fosters students’ inventiveness and encourages innovation,” Contra Costa County Office of Education Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey said. “The real-world applications and the opportunity to speak with professionals already in the field make this an invaluable experience. Congratulations to all of the participants and a special thank you to those who will represent this county at the state, national and international science fairs.”

Each March, young scientists and engineers have the opportunity to do hands-on research and showcase their STEM skills and compete in the CCCSEF. The competition was held virtually again this year due to COVID restrictions. Submitted student projects were evaluated by 86 industry partners.

Students competed in six different categories: behavioral sciences, biology, engineering, environmental sciences, math/computer sciences, physical sciences. After selecting a category, entries must include a research plan or project summary, and conduct science/engineering experiments. Students were to submit a Project Board displaying the question, hypothesis, research or project background, procedure or project results including data and the conclusion. The students were also required to provide a two-minute video accompanying the project that explains the project.
