PLEASANT HILL, CALIF. — Resolutions recognizing June as LGBTQIA+ month and pledging support for a new Education Center at Mt. Diablo State Park, a presentation on Universal Pre-Kindergarten grant funding, information on labor agreement proposals, and updates on the process for selecting a Student Board Member are some of the items on the Contra Costa County Board of Education (CCCBOE) agenda for its meeting scheduled for May 17, 2023, at 5 p.m.

BOARD MEETING AGENDA HIGHLIGHTS:

Resolution #33-22/23: LGBTQIA+ Awareness Month - the Contra Costa County Board of Education proclaims the month of June as LGBTQIA+ Awareness Month and encourages educational communities to recognize LGBTQIA+ Awareness by showcasing appropriate programs and activities that highlight their contributions.

Resolution #34-22/23 – The CCCBOE will show its support for an Education Center to be built at the entrance at Mount Diablo State Park. The Education Center will replace an existing portable trailer that has been used as the visiting center for 25 years. The new structure will be ADA compliant and allow for school field trips by bus for the first time. The project is spearheaded by the Mount Diablo Interpretative Association (MDIA).

Presentation on Universal Pre-Kindergarten – The Educational Services Department will give a presentation on grant funding in relation to the state’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten program.

Review of lease with DeDiablo Holdings – A review of the lease agreement with DeDiablo Holdings for additional office space. The CCCOE has been awarded a number of grants that has included staffing and the Stewart Building is nearing its staff capacity.

Labor Agreement Proposals – The Human Resources department will outline labor agreement proposals with the agency’s two bargaining units.

Student Board Member – The Policy Committee is presenting recommendations for creating a process to select a student board member to join the County Board of Education.
