Contra Costa County Office of Education's Special Education program provides special day classes and community-based instruction for students aged 3 to 22 with extensive support needs at seven locations across the county. Student placement is determined through a district referral process.
The support staff includes instructional assistants, speech pathologists, psychologists, nurses, adaptive physical education specialists, vision and mobility teachers, specialists for deaf and hard of hearing students, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
The mission is to educate and challenge students to achieve their maximum potential as independent and productive community members. This is achieved through an integrated learning environment, technology, evidence-based practices, community resources, and teamwork with dedicated parents and care providers.

AUTISM PROGRAMS

Highly specialized, intensive, early intervention programs for students with autism, ranging in age from birth through age 22. These programs utilize a variety of instructional and behavioral strategies, derived from best practices and research in the field, to reach and teach each individual student. Comprehensive instructional plans are systematic and responsive to each child's individual present needs and incorporate both home and school activities.

Community Based Instruction (CBI) is a program for students aged 18-22 with disabilities, aimed at easing their transition to adult life. The curriculum covers Independent Living Skills, Social Skills, Employment Training, and more. The program focuses on assessing, training, and placing students, using both classroom and community settings to teach transition skills.

Counseling and Education Programs

The EARLY START program serves children aged 0-3 with developmental disabilities. Educators help families create an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) to address each child's needs. The team includes specialized teachers, aides, therapists, and a psychologist, offering services through classroom activities, home-based instruction, play groups, and family activities.
