Contra Costa County Office of Education

Creating safe, supportive school environments takes more than awareness, it requires clear policies, informed staff, and tools that translate guidance into daily practice. At CCCOE, we are committed to helping districts, schools, and educators meet the evolving needs of students through effective, evidence-informed suicide prevention and intervention practices.

Why These Toolkits Matter

Understanding AB 1767 and AB 2246

  • AB 1767 requires local educational agencies (LEAs) serving grades K-6 to adopt a suicide prevention policy that addresses the needs of high risk-risk groups.
  • AB 2246 requires LEAS serving grades 7-12 to adopt similar policies that are developmentally appropriate and inclusive of vulnerable student populations.

These laws emphasize that suicide prevention must begin early, be inclusive, and be rooted in proactive, schoolwide strategies. The toolkits above support schools in support in fullfilling these critical responsiblities.
