Our Mission
Since 2022, The Youth Mental Health Coalition has been transforming how young people approach mental wellness. Students are the most powerful advocates for change in their communities - so their voices must be at the center of everything we do.
Through authentic conversations, meaningful participation, and strategic collaboration, the Youth Mental Health Coalition is cultivating a generation of confident mental health advocates who are breaking down barriers and building bridges to support. Their work centers on reducing stigma, fostering genuine connections, and empowering students to lead the change they want to see.
The movement spans schools throughout the region, uniting student representatives from: Liberty High School, Freedom High School, Deer Valley High School, College Park High School, Dozier-Libbey Medical High School, Pinole Valley High School, El Cerrito High School, Clayton Valley Charter, Dougherty Valley High School, and Cal High.
What We Do
The YMHC connects motivated high school students across Contra Costa County who believe mental health advocacy starts with young people leading the way. Together, students are creating change through:
- Community engagement: Hosting panels and events that bring mental health conversations out of the shadows
- Youth-centered advocacy: Ensuring mental health resources actually work for students by providing direct feedback from those who use them
- Peer-to-peer support: Facilitating student-led activities that build genuine relationships and mutual support
- Strategic partnerships: Working alongside school districts and mental health organizations to create lasting, systemic improvements
