Contra Costa County Office of Education

Contra Costa Behavioral Health Services (BHS), in partnership with the Contra Costa County Office of Education (CCCOE), received a five-year, $7.2 million Behavioral Health Student Services Act (BHSSA) grant in September 2021 to expand school-based mental health services through the Wellness in Schools Program (WISP). This countywide initiative strengthens existing mental health supports using a tiered approach that includes universal prevention, early intervention, and targeted services for students with greater behavioral health needs, with a focus on equity and access in high-need and underserved districts. WISP also provides resources, education, and support for parents and caregivers, fostering collaboration among schools, families, and community providers to promote early identification of mental health concerns and create sustainable, supportive environments that enhance student well-being.
