PLEASANT HILL, Calif., — Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey recognized the Rotary Club of San Ramon Valley as the Education Champion for the month of September 2023 at the most recent county Board of Education meeting. Rotarians from the Rotary Club of San Ramon Valley were thanked for sponsoring and organizing the Bay Area Scripps Regional Spelling Bee.
“Recognizing Education Champions is a highlight in our Board Meetings because we are able to personally thank organizations like the Rotary Club of San Ramon Valley for making a difference in the lives of students in Contra Costa County,” Superintendent Mackey said. “Having a chance to compete against the best spellers in the Bay Area and go on to compete against the best spellers in the nation, is an incredible opportunity. These students had these wonderful experiences because of the Rotarians’ efforts.”
Three spellers from the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee made it to the National Spelling Bee finals. Dhruv Subramanian (5th Place) of Windemere Ranch Middle School in San Ramon, Vikrant Chintanaboina (5th Place) of Discovery Charter School - Falcon Campus in San Jose, and Shradha Rachamreddy (3rd Place) of BASIS Independent Silicon Valley Upper School in San Jose were among eleven finalists in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Chintanaboina and Rachamreddy were co-champions in the California State Junior High Spelling Bee.
The Education Champion Award is an opportunity for the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education to recognize community members and businesses for going above and beyond to support students, schools, and education programming in Contra Costa County. Education Champions help create opportunities, build relationships, and provide a valuable resource to schools and the students they serve.
